A BOM (Bill of Materials) is the complete list of components needed to install an automatic irrigation system. SmartPluvia's generator analyzes your project and creates an accurate list in seconds.
What Is a BOM and Why You Need One
Manual parts counting takes hours and often leads to errors. The BOM generator automatically accounts for every sprinkler, every zone, every meter of pipe. You get exact quantities and estimated costs with one button click.
What the BOM Includes
A complete BOM covers every system component:
- Sprinkler bodies (pop-up housings) — 4" or 6" riser height
- Nozzles (separate from bodies) — model, arc, radius
- Solenoid valves — one per zone
- Valve boxes — to protect underground valves
- Pipe by diameter and material (PE 25, 32, 40 mm)
- Fittings — elbows, tees, couplings (counted per junction)
- Backflow preventer
- Controller — zone count determines the model
- Wire — 18/5 for up to 5 zones, 18/7 for 6–7 zones
- Waterproof wire connectors
Step 1: Prepare Your Project
Before generating a BOM, ensure your project contains:
- Plot boundary — press B and trace your perimeter
- Sprinklers — press S and place from the catalog of 202 models
- Zones — press Z and group your sprinklers
- Pipes — press P and route your mainlines
Step 2: Run the Generator
Click the "BOM" button on the toolbar. The generator analyzes your project in 1–3 seconds.
How SmartPluvia Calculates Quantities
- Sprinklers: counted directly from placed heads
- Pipe: measured from routed paths (in meters)
- Fittings: auto-counted at every turn, junction, and size change
- Valves: one per zone
- Wire: total distance from controller to each valve
Step 3: Review Results
The BOM includes categories:
| Category | Example | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Nozzles | Hunter MP Rotator 1000 | Model, arc, quantity |
| Spray bodies | Hunter PROS-04 | Pop-up height, quantity |
| Valves | Hunter PGV-101 | Size, count per zone |
| Pipes | PE 25 mm | Length in meters |
| Fittings | Elbow 25 mm | Type, quantity |
| Valve boxes | Hunter VB-SPR | Size, quantity |
| Drip line | Netafim Dripnet PC 16 mm | Type, length in meters |
| Fittings (generic) | Generic PE Elbow 25 mm | Type, quantity |
Cost Estimation
The BOM includes approximate pricing sourced from major retailers. Currency adapts to your locale. Example BOM for a 200 m² system:
- 11 sprinklers (bodies + nozzles) — €88
- 3 valves — €75
- 50 m PE 25 mm pipe — €35
- Fittings (elbows, tees, couplings) — €25
- 4-zone controller — €80
- Backflow preventer — €45
- Netafim drip line 30 m — €42
- Generic fittings (elbows, couplings) — €18
- Total: approx. €408
Customizing the BOM
You can edit the BOM manually:
- Add or remove items
- Change quantities if you want spares
- Switch brands (e.g., Rain Bird → Hunter)
- Add accessories (tools, tape, glue) not auto-detected
Step 4: Compare Brands
The BOM shows equivalents from 6 brands: Hunter, Rain Bird, Gardena, Toro, Netafim, Generic. Netafim — Israeli world leader in drip irrigation (since 1965), Generic — unbranded universal components (PE/PVC pipes, fittings, tools). Compare prices and choose the optimal option. Step 5: Export
Click "Export PDF" — the document includes:
- Component table with quantities and prices
- Zone summary
- Pipe layout diagram
Send the file to your contractor for a quote or take it to the hardware store as your shopping list.
Tips
- Always add a 10–15 % buffer for pipes and fittings
- Check compatibility of spray bodies and nozzles (the generator warns you)
- Run AI analysis before BOM — it catches project errors
